HEIC to JPG

Convert iPhone photos to JPG in batches — without uploading them anywhere.

The HEIC decoder loads once, on first use — about one megabyte.

Why are my iPhone photos HEIC files?

Since iOS 11, iPhones shoot in High Efficiency Image Format (HEIC) to save roughly half the storage of JPEG at the same quality. The catch is compatibility: many websites, Windows PCs, upload forms and older apps can’t open HEIC, which is exactly why “HEIC to JPG” is one of the most common photo conversions there is. This page decodes HEIC locally using the open-source libheif engine and re-encodes it as a standard JPG your device can open anywhere.

FAQ

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No — and this matters more here than with almost any other conversion, because HEIC files are usually personal photo libraries: family pictures, documents, screenshots. The decoding and re-encoding happen entirely inside your browser using an open-source library downloaded once. Nothing leaves your device.

How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?

Settings → Camera → Formats → choose “Most Compatible”. Photos will then be saved as JPG (at the cost of some storage space). You can also keep HEIC and convert only the photos you actually need to share — which is what this page is for.

Can I convert HEIC on the Mac without a website?

Yes: open the file in Preview and use File → Export, or select several files in Finder and use Preview’s batch export. For single photos, the quickest route is the Files app on iPhone: long-press → Quick Actions → Convert Image. This page is most useful on Windows, or on any device when you need batch conversion with a quality setting.

Will converting to JPG lose quality?

At the default quality (92), the difference is imperceptible in practice. JPG is a lossy format, so at very low quality settings you would see artifacts — the slider is there if you need smaller files, but for everyday sharing the default is the right choice.
