Image Compressor

Hit an exact file size — 100KB for a form, 50KB for an upload portal — without leaving your device.

Photos are processed on this page only — nothing is uploaded, which is exactly what you want for ID scans and personal pictures.

How it works

For a target size, the tool re-encodes your image repeatedly while automatically tuning two things: JPEG quality and, if needed, the image dimensions — a search that homes in on the largest version of your photo that still fits the limit. It prefers to keep the resolution and lower quality first, and only shrinks dimensions when quality alone can’t reach the target (very small limits like 20KB on a big photo). Everything runs on your device; your images are never uploaded.

FAQ

Why do forms ask for a specific KB size?

Government visa portals, exam applications and job systems impose upload limits (100KB is a classic) because they process millions of documents. The portal rejects anything bigger, which is why “compress image to 100KB” is such a common search — and why this tool targets exact sizes instead of just “making it smaller”.

Can it compress PNG files?

PNG is a lossless format with no quality dial, so exact-size targeting doesn’t apply cleanly. If you feed in a PNG, it is converted to JPEG for compression (transparent areas become white). If you need to keep transparency, use the image converter — and note that PNG sizes can usually be reduced anyway simply because screenshots contain large flat areas.

Will my image look worse after compression?

Some compression is invisible at normal viewing sizes; heavy targeting (like 20KB from a 5MB photo) necessarily reduces resolution as well as quality. The tool always shows the final dimensions and quality level so you can judge, and you can re-run with a bigger target if it looks too soft.

Is uploading safe? Where do my photos go?

There is no uploading. The compression happens in JavaScript on your own device — you could disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it would still work. Nothing is stored or transmitted.
